HAZMAT

  • Incident Command

  • Prerequisite: 24 Hour Initial HAZMAT Course
  • This course is designed for the individuals who would be in
    charge of a HAZMAT response.
  • Location specific policies and procedures are used (ex.
    EAP, etc.).
  • Training Timeline:
  • Every 2-3 years (must continue to demonstrate
    competency)
  • 8 Hour Operations Level

  • This certification is
    designed for the individuals
    who would not wear Levels
    A, B, C, or D during a
    HAZMAT response.
  • It is six hours of hands-on
    training and is competency-
    based.
  • Location specific
    equipment is used.
  • Location specific policies,
    and procedures are used
    (ex. EAP, etc.).
  • Training Timeline:
  • Every 12 months
  • 8 Hour Technician Refresher

  • Prerequisite: 24 hour Initial Technician Level
  • Prerequisite: Current physical for all individuals
    required to use an SCBA.
  • This course is designed as a yearly refresher
    HAZMAT course.
  • It is six hours of hands-on training and is
    competency-based.
  • Location specific equipment is used (ex.
    SCBA's, Level A suits, meters, etc,)
  • Location specific policies and procedures are
    used (ex. EAP, etc.)
  • Individuals who complete the 8 Hour
    Technician Refresher course but do not
    demonstrate competency by wearing the PPE
    during training will be certified as a Refresher
    but not as a Responder.
  • Individuals certified at the technician level can
    be responders in a HAZMAT response.
  • Training Timeline:
  • Every 12 months

  • 24 Hour Initial Technician Level

  • Prerequisite: Current physical for all
    individuals required to use an SCBA.
  • This course is designed as initial
    HAZMAT training.
  • Roles of HAZMAT for the Incident
    Command System are covered.
  • It is hands-on and competency-
    based.
  • Location specific equipment is used
    (ex. SCBA's, Level A suits, meters,
    etc.)
  • Location policies and procedures
    are used (ex. EAP, etc.)
  • Individuals who complete this course
    are eligible for an Incident
    Command Class.
  • Training Timeline:
  • At initial job assigment
  • Anyone who is past 13
    months from their last 8 Hour
    Technician Refresher

  • This course is designed for individuals who would be in
    charge of emergency scenarios that do not fall under the
    HAZMAT category.
  • Some examples of scenarios covered include fire, bomb
    threat, confined space, etc.
